Golden, tender, and packed with flavor, these Polpettine in Agrodolce are a delightful balance of savory and sweet. They’re a must-try for lovers of Sicilian cuisine! Polpettine in agrodolce belong on a Sicilian aperitivo table. Serve them alongside arancini (Sicilian fried rice balls) and panzarotti (deep-fried Italian pockets) for a spread that celebrates the island's love of bold, contrasting flavors. Caponata siciliana carries the same sweet-sour thread, making the two a natural pairing on the same plate. Fritto misto adds crispy contrast, while a Greek cheese pie (tiropita) bridges the wider Mediterranean table. Pour a glass of Gratsi Red — it holds up to the vinegar and brings the savory notes forward.

Step 1: Mix The Meatball Mixture
Mix the ground beef, ground pork, eggs, breadcrumbs, Pecorino Romano, chopped mint, orange zest, pine nuts, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl until well combined.

Step 2: Roll And Coat
Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a walnut. Lightly coat each meatball in flour.

Step 3: Sear With Onions
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until slightly softened. Add the meatballs and sear them on all sides until golden brown.

Step 4: Add The Agrodolce Sauce
In a small bowl, mix the white wine vinegar with the sugar until dissolved. Add this mixture to the pan, along with the raisins. Stir gently to coat the meatballs evenly in the sauce.
Step 5: Cover And Simmer
Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 10–15 minutes, or until the liquid has evaporated and the meatballs are fully cooked through.
Step 6: Garnish And Serve
Finish with strips of orange peel and a sprinkle of fresh mint. Let the dish rest for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve as an appetizer or main course, and pair with a glass of Gratsi White wine for a true Sicilian experience. Buon appetito!
